How To Jump Higher

Jumping higher is a goal that we as athletes desire greatly. Especially the ones of us who play basketball or volleyball.

We dream of what it would fill like to have a rim shaking power dunk or a towering with your hand two feet above the-net to deliver a spike that digs the ball into the sand on your opponents side of the court.

I get fired up just thinking about these heroics. But gaining the skill to accomplish such feats don’t always come easy. We would all like to jump higher but we are not always so willing to pay the price. But unless you are just naturally gifted and tall you are going to have to resolve to be dedicated in your quest to improve your jump in order to succeed at it.

Here are some tips that can help you jump higher than you are right now.

First prepare yourself mentally. Just because you have never been able to touch the nets much less slam a basketball, does not mean that it will always be that way. You have to first believe you can jump higher. And you can after gaining belief then it’s just a matter of having the proper training and a dedicated work ethic.

Jumping higher just takes some consistent work and specific knowledge on targeted skills. You must first improve the power in your lower and upper legs. This is a very large muscle group and it takes work to strengthen this area of your body.

Use squats to develop the upper leg muscle group. Jump in place by lowering down to a squat and then exploding as high as you can. Do lunges using free weights for added resistance.

Do exercises whish target your calves and lower leg muscles to train yourself to get off the ground faster. Jumping rope makes a great addition to any vertical jump improvement routine.

Running up stadium bleacher stairs and back down again helps your speed and strength as well. This also builds up your endurance.

And lastly I recommend getting expert help in designing a vertical jump program around your specific needs. You can learn to jump higher on your own, but it will take longer to learn and your results will not be as good as the would be with professional help.

There are plenty of books and fitness gurus available to you the net and at bookstores. Remember be patient and persistent and you are certain to realize your dream of jumping higher.
